Is There Such Thing as Fate?

Greek mythology has it that there were three goddesses called the Fates and their career of choice was to determine the birth, life and death of people. They planned it all and nothing was given to chance.

Rumour has it they also like to mix it up and throw a few curve balls in peoples’ lives. This is known as the Fates’ best friend, karma.

Take the date I had that took me to McDonald’s – this being his idea of romance. Did the Fates bring this guy into my life to teach me a lesson, or just waste my time?

If everything is predestined and happens for a reason, is it possible that one mistake could ruin your fate? Could three women really help one guy find another guy?

When we meet someone new and it turns out to be an affair to remember we often say it was the result of fate. When it doesn’t we say it wasn’t meant to be.

The thing with fate is that all it does is bring up more riddles of love – without an answer. In fact no real answer at all, just annoyingly more questions.

What about after you break up with someone? We always seem to go straight to analysing the situation, asking more questions that have no answers.

We usually analyse what we’re feeling, what was said, how it sounded and looked and what could’ve been done to change it.

But maybe fate isn’t the one that makes you come up with these questions. Perhaps fate’s job is just to make you look for the answer.

The biggest problem with people moving on is going through the ifs, whats and whys. It seems the main reason people believe in fate is it gives an answer to a circumstance you wouldn’t normally be able to explain.

Fate is designed to wrap up any situation in a nice bow so you can move on with the next part of your life. It wasn’t meant to be a “fate has bigger plans” kind of mentality.

The problem with people today is that everyone is so organised it doesn’t leave much room for fate to step in. It’s good to control your own life, but what are you missing if you don’t slow down?

It doesn’t matter if you believe in fate or not. In our over complicated, over analysed lives sometimes it’s good to take a risk – and sometimes it is comforting to know there is a higher power making you do things you shouldn’t have.

So from where I stand it is always advisable to take risks, especially when it comes to finding love. (And no, I don’t mean unsafe sex!). Eventually those risks will pay dividends and you will find someone you really like.
